So it’s that time of year again. The roads get busier, the shops get hectic and everything goes crazy! As much as the craziness of Christmas makes me shiver, I love it.  I love the sense of unity with Family, warm drinks and lovely stories shared.

The best thing about today of course, being the 1st of December we get to open our Christmas Calenders! yum yum. I always get a Cadburys one as they are my favourite. I’ve bought 3 this year, one for each of my family. I usually get 1 for Skylar and one for myself as my husband proclaims he doesn’t want one, only to later steal mine!

Christmas shopping is going well, seems there is mass panic about whether everyone’s deliveries will be on time due to Royal Mail being so over jammed! I’ve got most of my prezzies now which is a big relief, better to get it out of the way sooner rather than later!

Hows your Christmas Shopping going?

Happy December!

Throughout the past week I’ve been experimenting with some different variations of healthy snacks on my child. He’s always getting hungry in between meals and wants a snack but I want to steer him away from the non-health traditional snacks such as crisps and biscuits. We all know getting our kids to eat healthy can be difficult at the best of times. Here’s some I’ve found and their pros and cons!

Apple Sticks & Cubes

These are a great little snack for kids, peel (optional) and chop up some apple in to cubes or sticks, roughly 1 apple = 1 portion. Low calorie too which is great. You can even get your kids involved (depending on age, with proper supervision).

Pros: Easy to make, 1 of your 5 a day, packed with health vitamins and minerals.

Cons: High in Sugar (Although they are natural sugars, sugar is sugar!) and They don’t preserve very well.

Carrot Sticks

These are an amazing way of getting your kids to eat vegetables, although they don’t taste the greatest, they are worth a shot, they are said to improve vision.

Pros: Benefits include increased eye sight, vitamins.

Cons: Kids still know their vegetables! And won’t eat enough

Nuts

Nuts are a great snack which are packed with protein, opt for a handful, a full pack may be way too much fat. Essential fats are important, but don’t over do it. Aim for healthy nuts such as Almonds or Brazil Nuts.

Pros: Lots of essential fats for growth and protein.

Cons: Don’t taste quite as nice as the salted versions!

I hope you have as much fun as I did trying out some of these healthy snacks for kids! Let me know how you get on trying them with your kids, I’d love to know which you’ve tried and how much success you have achieved!

lucozade cola New Lucozade Cola Flavour! There’s a new lucozade out! Cola flavour! I bought one today from Asda. It was on special offer (only £1) as they are limited addition. I don’t usually drink Lucozade. I used to but there’s way too much sugar in it for me compared to the diet alternatives, so I tend to stick to them now. I went out on a bit of a limb to try the new flavour.

The drink had a nice taste to it, not like the usual “cola flavourings” which just taste awful. I really enjoyed it, it’s not something I’d drink regularly, or give to my son by any means, but for a useful “pick me up” on those days when everything’s stacked against you It gets the thumbs up from me! Has anyone else tried?

Recently I’ve been looking at fun ideas to do with the family. With all the busy-ness of the week it’s so nice to get a relaxing break at the weekend. We try to do things together every weekend if we can, if not every other. I feel it’s important to spend this kind of quality time together and treasure the time we do have together. Here’s some of the fun things I’ve found to do with the family:

I have to admit, I probably enjoy the zoo as much as the children icon smile Fun things to do with the Family Days out I love seeing the different species of animals. We recently went to Chester Zoo and it was amazing, they has a beautiful Butterfly Zone with them flying around you, it was such a great experience. Breathtaking! The kids learn a lot too which is great, last time we were there we got to see some Baby Tiger Cubs getting Fed, it was lovely.

ice cream 284x300 Fun things to do with the Family Days outIce Cream Heaven! The Ice Cream Farm

A couple weeks back we visited the Ice Cream factory near us which was such a lovely day out, it was a kind of Ice Cream farm where they had lovely baby animals that the kids could interact with and pet, a cafe for the adults and a traditional ice cream shop where you could see how the ice cream was made from the cow to the tasting! We got to eat lot’s of delicious ice cream to, yummy! The kids loved it.

The Big Screen!

We love going to the cinema as a family, it’s a great trip out, we may stop for some food too to make more of a day of it, it’s great because it’s an all-weather activitiy, very useful in this country! icon smile Fun things to do with the Family Days out We tend to go to the earlier showings to avoid the busy-adult times. We go for the family friendly films too like disneys Cars! Loved it.

I hope these give you some ideas on what you can do for days out with your kids icon smile Fun things to do with the Family Days out I’d love to hear what you do for days out! Maybe I can add them here?

Today my little boy sky said to me, “Mummy, can you tell me about the Birds and the Bees?” as one of his friends from the park told him that their mummy was telling them about the Birds and the Bees! He also asked “Mummy, what’s the big lump in your tummy?” to which I replied “It’s your new baby brother or sister!” which he got all excited about. It’s these moments that I treasure with my child, the innocence and creativity of their minds.

Thinking about all the cute things they say gave me the inspiration for this blog post, children are so lovely and innocent, when my son says “I love you mummy” it just melts my heart. It’s these moments that make all the hard work of being a parent worth while! I will treasure these moment for the rest of my life!

What cute things to do your kids say that make you smile icon smile Cute things kids say! ?

I took Sky to the local park today and he loved it. He loves the slide and swings bless him he’s a little cutie. I Go to the local park quite often (it’s just across the way from us). He’s always asking me to go there – which is good. He gets some exercise which is so important for kids & get’s to make friends.

He has two main friends there, a 4 year old girl and another 3 year old boy. They all play well together and I get to chat to the other parents regularly which is a great bonus. The other mums are great. Sharon is a stay at home mum and freelance journalist and she’s been giving me some tips on writing, so I help it pays off. Marissa, the mother of the little girl is a lovely women, she’s a professional chef which is amazing, she gives me some tips on cooking and all sorts. She works terrible hours though, I don’t envy her in any way.

I enjoy meeting up with them as I don’t get much time between juggling the kids and all the household work so it’s nice to get some “girl time” to bond with them. Plus the kids can all go off and play with them which doesn’t involve me doing too much work.

We used to live in a more urban “city living” apartment which gave us non of these great possibilities. It’s been a big relief moving to to a smaller town environment. People are a LOT friendlier (people are so rude in the city!) And doing activities like popping to the park of going on a family country walk really makes it all worth while!

snow angels 300x224 Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow! This post is a pinch of wishful thinking! I must admit. I’m really hoping it snows this year as I LOVE the snow. It’s depressing that in this country we never get to experience the “seasons” as such.. Only one long-long wet season of drizzle and rain getting the odd day of sunshine if we’re lucky.

Here’s 5 reasons why I love <3 the snow.

  1. We get to make Snowmen! Sky didn’t really understand it last year as he was only 2 but since seeing “The Snowman” film, he can’t wait and keeps asking when it’ll snow!
  2. Snow Angels! I love making snow angels, ever since I was a little girl I used to run out in the snow, and make snow angels. icon smile Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
  3. Cute Kiddy Clothing We get to dress our little boy up in his lovely winter warmers and little hat – He looks so cute!
  4. Snuggling in front of the Fire is the perfect way to sit back and relax after a long adventureful day in the snow! Nothing beats an open fire.
  5. Hot Chocolate & Lot’s of Tea! I love a good old cuppa or hot chocolate, I’ve recently switched to the weight watchers one to ditch the calories but it’s still delicous goodness.. Mmm.
I can’t wait. I really hope we do get snow this year and get a “White Christmas” – Nothing beats it. I love being at home for Christmas, I think Christmas is all about being at home with your family, closest & loved one and enjoying the time you have together. Final thought: Life is precious, and we should treasure each and every moment.

Today my son asked me if he could have a little Sister! Seeing as I’m 3 months away from my delivery date I have to admit it’s been something that’s been playing on my mind a lot recently. I replied to him “Why do you want a sister sweetie? Wouldn’t you rather a little Brother to play with?” to which he replied “So I can look after her”! It was the sweetest moment. I treasure all of these sweet moments of innocence from my child as I’m sure most mothers do!

I would love to have a little girl to dress up and treat as my little princess, as I’ve mentioned previously. Don’t get me wrong – another little boy would be fantastic too. All the preparations we have been making such as buying new clothing, decorating the room as so forth have all been quite neutral up to this point, so we are prepared for whatever comes our way in the future.

Thinking about what he asked me made me reflect upon my life and how many children I would ideally like to have. I would love to have a little girl as I’m sure most people would but I don’t know how many children I would want as yet! One is a lot of work but he’s more than worth it, he’s my world. I’m looking forward to the challenge of bringing up two children and the obstacles I will face along the way.

How many Children do you have & How did you handle the whole gender hopes and dreams?!
